Surrey County Cricket Club media release:
Pakistani fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar is set to make his county debut on Tuesday as Surrey bring their fight against relegation to the Brit Oval for an LV County Championship clash with Hampshire.
Akhtar, who arrived in the UK and trained with the squad on Monday morning, will take his place in a side virtually unchanged from that which suffered another unlucky rain affected draw in Canterbury last week.
Popular Surrey seam bowler Chris Jordan is still suffering from soft tissue damage in his right hip and will therefore miss the game. The teenager is still undergoing a course of rehabilitation and has not entirely ruled himself out of Surrey’s last game of the season, at home to title chasing Nottinghamshire next week.
Both of the two other long-term injury casualties in the Surrey squad – Club captain Mark Butcher (knee) and spinner Chris Schofield (thumb) – are also not in contention for selection against Hampshire.
All rounder Matthew Spriegel, who scored an impressively stolid 42 against Kent, also keeps his place in the thirteen man squad, which is further bolstered by the inclusion of off spinner Murtaza Hussain.

Mark Ramprakash (Captain), Scott Newman, Chris Murtagh, Jonathan Batty, Usman Afzaal, James Benning, Matthew Spriegel, Alex Tudor, Jimmy Ormond, Saqlain Mushtaq, Shoaib Akhtar, Jade Dernbach, Murtaza Hussain.
